Value added tax is one of the most complex and onerous tax regimes imposed on business - so complex that many businesses inadvertently overpay or underpay VAT.

The ever widening scope of VAT, the constant stream of detailed changes to the regulations and the ever growing demands of HMRC call for a trained professional eye to ensure that you do not fall foul of the regulations and do not pay the Exchequer more than you need to!

We provide an efficient cost effective VAT service, which includes:

  • Assistance with VAT registration
  • Advice on VAT planning and administration
  • Use of the most appropriate scheme
  • VAT control and reconciliation
  • Help with completing VAT returns
  • Planning to minimise future problems with HMRC
  • Negotiating with HMRC in disputes and representing you at VAT tribunals

Our staff can also advise and assist with the use of some of the special schemes set up by HMRC:

  • Cash Accounting - If your turnover is within the limits for the scheme you will only need to pay VAT to HMRC when you are paid by your customers. This is a significant advantage for businesses that have to grant extended payment terms to their customers.
  • Flat Rate Scheme - Traders eligible to join this scheme can simplify their VAT accounting by applying a flat rate percentage to their sales and paying this amount to HMRC.
  • Annual Accounting - With this scheme you agree an estimated annual liability, based on the previous year's figures and pay this over on an installment basis. At the end of each year a final return is submitted and any balance due is paid or overpayment refunded.
  • Retailers Schemes - Ordinarily, registered traders are required to keep detailed records of every transaction. For retailers this could prove to be a time-consuming chore. To avoid this, affected businesses can use one of the schemes set up with retailers in mind.
  • Tour Operators Margin Scheme - Tour operators often buy goods and services from businesses in foreign countries, and cannot often reclaim their input tax. The tour operators' margin scheme solves this problem by allowing tour operators to calculate the VAT on just the value that they add.
